Well done to Ciaran Sullivan from Ripple Sense who won the Bolton Trust/DIT Student Competition 2017. Ripple Sense is an IOT based wireless water level and consumption monitor intended for agricultural use. Ciaran Sullivan and the Core Devices team are students of Product Design in DIT Bolton St.

Propertygate wins DIP Award 2014 for ‘Best investment proposal’

Tony Staunton, Founder, Propertygate beat off stiff competition from Kevin Ryan, Puralight and Tim Schmidt, Simply Connected to win the title of ‘ Best investment proposal’ and a cheque for €10,000 at the Awards Evening held in PwC on 6th March 2014. Best Investment Proposal Set to Win Trophy & €10,000

Three companies, each seeking expansion funding, will battle it out at the Docklands Innovation Park Enterprise Awards to secure the title of ‘best investment proposal 2014’ and a prize of €10,000. This year PwC, Ireland’s largest professional services organisation, again hosts the Awards . The finalists, all of whom are participants on the Dublin Institute of Technology Hothouse New Frontiers Programme, will pitch their investment proposals and be questioned by an experienced panel of judges on their business plans.

The three shortlisted individuals are:

Kevin Ryan Pura Light Ltd

Tim Schmidt Simply Connected Ltd

They will each give a 20 minute presentation on their investment proposal and be questioned by a panel of judges. Now in its twelfth year, the Docklands Innovation Park Enterprise Awards is the initiative of the Bolton Trust/Docklands Innovation Park and DIT Hothouse and is aimed at showcasing the innovative companies emerging from the Park to investors and those with an interest in start-ups. Last year’s winner Smart Wall Paint went on to raise investment and now employs ten people.

The winner of this year’s hotly contested DIT Bolton Trust Student Enterprise competition final was Team Brilliant Ltd. Studying International Languages and Business the team submitted a business plan for a new start-up company registered in Kenya offering solar-powered LED lamps for the African market. The team comprising Lucy Nzeymana, Viktorija Platake, Ru Hui Yee and Lin Lin Marchant, made an excellent presentation of their plan to the judging panel on the night. The winning team were also awarded the Michael A Griffin memorial award for the most innovative product.

The final took place in DIT Cathal Brugha St on March 23rd and the result was so close that the judges decided to combine the prize money for 1st and 2nd place so they could offer the team in second a bigger proportion of the prize money to reflect the closeness of the result. The team who came first was presented with a cheque for €2500 and the team who came second (Team EMHF) received €2000. Team EMHF had proposed a business plan for Healthy Treats – a local business designed to provide a range of nutritionally balanced and healthier fast-food options. There were four team members: Fiachra Kenny, Marta Kencler, Hajnalka Krizsany, and Eleanor McCarthy. All are students on the BSc in Culinary Entrepreneurship programme.
